Tree-lined walkways, manicured lawns, and friendly neighbors are some of the reasons the M-Streets neighborhood of Dallas is such a popular location for home buyers and custom home builders. The M-Streets, officially known as Greenland Hills, got its nickname because many of the street names start with the letter M: Monticello, McCommas, Merimac, Morningside and Mercedes. The neighborhood is a good mix of old and new single-family homes. Dating back to the 1920s, house building centered on mostly Tudor, Craftsman, and Colonial style homes for the neighborhood.
While it has the look of an upper class suburb, the neighborhood is actually in East Dallas near the Central Business District, which makes it an ideal location for professionals. The M-Streets are also conveniently located within a great school system, shares a piece of White Rock Lake, and is settled between two of the city’s most popular entertainment districts; Greenville Avenue and Uptown. Crime is lower in the M-Streets than in many other areas of Dallas, due, in part, to a proactive Crimewatch program funded by the residents’ donations.
